Fonts I Like

I really like fonts. Really really. I could (and too often do) spend a lot of time browsing through hundreds of fonts trying to find one that fits my needs just right. When developing or designing a website, most often I’ll look to Font Squirrel to get what I need or even to just use their awesome @font face generator so that I can have great looking fonts on websites I build, without requiring the viewer to have that font installed.

Here’s a list of some of my favorites:

  • TeX Gyre Adventor – Used on this site, a cool sans-serif font
  • Droid Sans – Another good sans-serif
  • Fonts by Jellyka – There are some really cool script fonts on her site. I can hardly ever find places to use them, if at all, but I just like them. Some favorites are Western Princess, Saint-Andrew’s Queen and Estrya’s Handwriting
  • Architect’s Daughter – A handwriting font that’s a little less fancy than the Jellyka ones.

The power of font choice is not something to be taken lightly. That decision can make the difference between a website looking professional or looking cheesy. And remember kids, never, never, never (except in rare cases of satire) use Comic Sans or Papyrus. If you don’t know why, just trust me. Or google it. Or better yet, let me google it for you.
